A police officer who was ambushed and shot multiple times in his patrol car in downtown Anchorage early Saturday was in stable condition Sunday night.
The officer, whose name has not been released, underwent two surgeries for “multiple gunshot wounds” on Saturday, said Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Castro. On Sunday, he was recovering in a local hospital, she said.
The suspect in Saturday’s incident was killed in gunfire from police. Police are still trying to notify his next-of-kin, and no name had been released…

Modesto, CA- The Modesto Police Department, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 1700 Block of Vernon Avenue.
On Saturday, December 7, 2013 at about 2:20 PM, Modesto Police Officers contacted four subjects who were loitering behind a business near the intersection of Vernon Ave and Paradise Rd. Upon initial contact with the officers, one of the suspects, identified as 19-year-old Anthony Allen-Hayes of Modesto, fled the area on foot. One officer gave chase of Allen-Hayes who was armed with a stolen firearm. The officer discharged his firearm, striking Allen-Hayes once, causing non-life threatening injuries.
Anthony Allen-Hayes was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for possession of stolen property and felon in possession of a firearm.
The officer involved in the shooting was Officer Tyler Houston, who is an 8-year veteran. He was not injured during this incident. Officer Houston has been placed on paid administrative leave as is standard with all officer involved shootings.
Three separate and independent investigations have been launched into this incident, which is standard protocol for any officer-involved shooting investigation in Stanislaus County. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department will be leading the investigation into this incident, as the shooting occurred in their jurisdiction. The Stanislaus County District Attorney’s office will be conducting an independent review of the incident. The Modesto Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit will be conducting an administrative investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The case is under investigation and no further details are available for release at this time.
